Tips & Tricks

Threads – a traffic goldmine affiliate marketers cannot afford to miss

  1. How Threads works and the sense of safety Threaders feel.

Threads is optimized entirely for writing, and writing alone. Images and videos are not optimized for visibility; they are merely side dishes. The main course here is letters and words. When we communicate, the vague, abstract things we cannot quite put into words reduce our ability to convey meaning to the other person.

Threads has a healing vibe: gentle and empathetic. Threads also limits the amount of text shown in the display area, so expressing your ideas fully requires even more care with your wording.

  1. The percentage of content that goes viral on Threads.

I tested a range of content by posting it myself and observing other Threaders on my FYP. (Engagement, views, and conversions are based on my own benchmarks; to me, 400-500 interactions or more means a post has gone viral and reached plenty of Threaders.)

– Sales content: 5-10% goes viral

– Personal opinion content: 50-60% goes viral

– Questions and inquiries: 55% goes viral

– Content about personal experiences: 60-70% goes viral

– Knowledge, academic content, and resources: 85% goes viral

  • – Content sharing practical experience in a specific field: 90-95% goes viral

– Comedy, oddities, and shocking content: 99% goes viral. This probably needs no explanation, since I mentioned it at the beginning. For the 1% that does not go viral, you are probably the only one who thinks it is funny or unusual.

– Recruitment content: 99.99% gets lots of engagement, though I would not count this as going viral. Times are tough economically; people are in a hurry to find work =))

  1. Fertile ground for building a personal brand around Knowledge, Expertise, and Experience.

When you think of writing, notebooks, paper, pens, and studying usually come to mind right away. In an environment like this, where people share through “writing,” users will read, and when they read, they look for useful information. Useful information is what they do not yet know, want to know, and need to know—and that means knowledge, expertise, and experience.

This is also a safe, peaceful place where users can satisfy their curiosity without fear of being judged. So would knowledge, expertise, and experience not appeal to that curiosity? Given that the platform emerged in a new era, Gen Z is the generation quickest to embrace it. Gen Z makes up the majority of Threaders, making openness to learning and a thirst for knowledge even more prevalent.

That gives seasoned professionals and those further along in their careers even more opportunities to attract Gen Z users who are working on their personal development. Although the platform is not great for making your personal image recognizable, it makes up for that by strongly showcasing how you think. Having a less recognizable personal image is more of an advantage than a limitation: people will feel more confident sharing information about themselves.

I firmly believe that anyone looking to build a personal brand around their expertise can explore this platform more deeply. One good post may not get many people to know you, but a series of posts will certainly be welcomed by the community, and the thoughtfulness involved in writing can make your personal brand extremely credible. So how can you get your content to reach more people? There are a few little tips you might not know—and if you already do, that is fine too.

  1. A few useful tips for attracting more engagement on your posts.

Threads is currently a new platform with an extremely broad distribution of posts. Whenever anyone with a public account posts something, it enters the shared feed where anyone can see it. In my view, its distribution is even broader than Tiktok’s. It shows a huge number of posts, and they keep flowing, so going viral requires your key information to stand out even more.

How do you get people to see your posts and be more likely to engage with them? Because distribution is so broad, even viral posts have a lifespan of around 2-3 days before engagement gradually tapers off. Here are a few personal tips, combined with the viral percentages I compiled above:

– The first line of your post needs to contain keywords that convey the main idea of what you are sharing or asking. (If the keywords are good or compelling enough, engagement will come naturally.)

– Tap into insights about what many people are curious about, or feelings that stand out. (For example: my Threads post promising an algorithm analysis at 100 likes worked because it satisfied people’s curiosity. And 100 likes was not too difficult a target, but it was enough to bring in even more engagement.)

– The more comments a post has, the more it gets distributed (exchanges between users attract people to take a look).

– You can make a simple inference about posting times from the platform’s writing-based format: late at night, after studying and working, people relax and reflect on their day. At that time, a large number of people want to open the app and write down what they are thinking. (Late-night thoughts and overthinking, right?) => Posting late at night makes sense. But personally, I think you can post whenever you like.

– Posts with images do not need to worry about reduced engagement, but clear images that are not cluttered or blurry also encourage users to stop and take a closer look at the post.

– Avoid using too many abbreviations in your posts. Even the simplest writing, with fully written-out words and sentences, can make a good impression on readers.

– Use wording that stirs emotions, and create an atmosphere in your posts that makes Threaders feel peaceful and safe, where there is nothing but kindness and empathy. => Easier to engage with.

  1. Overall assessment

All in all, Threads is such a great fit for building a personal brand around your expertise. Threaders are highly engaged. Use appropriate wording and give your writing a clear beginning and end: “When writers take care, readers treasure their words.”

=> My own conclusion:

2 types of content to focus on

– Knowledge, academic content, and resources: 85% goes viral

– Content sharing practical experience in a specific field: 90-95% goes viral
